The Garmin Venu 3 stands as one of Garmin’s most recent smart activity watches, and its standout feature is its exceptional sleep tracking capability.
How Sleep Tracking Works
This watch autonomously identifies when you fall asleep, progressively learning about your sleep patterns. The more consistently you utilize it at bedtime, the more refined your data becomes.
This data is then transformed into a Sleep Score, quantifying crucial insights about your sleep in numerical terms. These figures offer invaluable insights into your physical state for the day ahead. Moreover, based on this data, the Garmin Venu 3 provides personalized tips through its Sleep Coach feature, empowering you to achieve a better night’s sleep.
Additional Features: Nap Detection and Jet Lag Advisor
Complementing the sleep tracking function, the watch boasts an automatic nap detection and a jet lag advisor. These features prove particularly invaluable for frequent travelers navigating time zone shifts. The nap detection feature is triggered by a drop in heart rate, drawing on historical data and the time of day to discern whether you are napping or in a deeper slumber. Notably, Garmin notes that this nap tracking feature covers durations ranging from 10 minutes to 2 hours.
To truly grasp the full potential of this feature, an extended trial period seems necessary for an accurate assessment.
Wheelchair Activity Tracking and Meditation
Two distinctive features that caught my attention are the wheelchair activity tracking and meditation functionalities.
The former caters explicitly to individuals in wheelchairs, activating the activity tracking option once your profile reflects this setting. As Garmin emphasizes, it diligently “monitors daily pushes and delivers weight shift alerts, alongside wheelchair-specific sports apps and workouts.”
While I wasn’t able to test the wheelchair activity tracking feature, the meditation option was accessible. It offers a straightforward yet effective means of calming nerves through ambient sounds. You can opt to listen directly from your watch or connect it to headphones for a more concentrated session. This extends to accessing downloaded music from providers like Spotify. However, a potential point of friction arises here.
It’s crucial to note that the Garmin Venu 3 operates within a distinct ecosystem from iOS and Android devices. Consequently, re-establishing the Bluetooth connection with your mobile phone after pairing it with the Garmin Venu 3 can be somewhat cumbersome. Yet, it’s worth considering that many of us likely possess multiple sets of Bluetooth headphones, potentially mitigating this inconvenience.
Menstrual Tracking and Women’s Wellness

For women seeking a more comprehensive understanding of their bodies, the Garmin Venu 3 offers menstrual tracking. This feature empowers women to gain insights into their menstrual cycle, helping them better plan physical activity and optimize their wellness routines. The watch provides tailored advice and tips to navigate these phases with confidence and comfort.
Standard Activity Trackers
Additionally, the Garmin Venu 3 offers a suite of more than 30 activity trackers for various pursuits such as running, hiking, and treadmill workouts. These features provide users with a comprehensive toolset to monitor and optimize their fitness routines, further enhancing the versatility and utility of the device. Not to mention, there’s GPS built-in so you can have an accurate gauge of range.
