MISI, a cybersecurity nonprofit, has joined forces with Maryland’s Global Gateway Soft Landing Program to drive small business engagement, academic partnerships, STEM and workforce development, and proof of concept innovation. Managed by the Maryland Department of Commerce, this program offers international companies a unique opportunity to test their market viability in the United States.

As an official Soft Landing partner, MISI will receive grants to provide approved companies with essential resources, including access to facilities, expert advisors, and more. These international companies will have the chance to station their personnel in Maryland for a six-month period. MISI will also facilitate events, mentorship, and guide them through the intricacies of conducting business in Maryland and the broader U.S. market.

Starting from September 1, 2023, MISI will host its inaugural Soft Landing participants in a dedicated space within its Cyber Mission Accelerator facilities, known as Azimuth 24. At the conclusion of this initial six-month phase, these businesses will be considered for the opportunity to establish a permanent presence in Maryland, thus bringing high-tech job prospects to the region.

The pioneering international company to participate in this MISI venture is Flexxon. Founded in 2007 and headquartered in Singapore, Flexxon specializes in manufacturing next-generation storage devices, with a focus on hardware-based cybersecurity solutions and industrial NAND flash storage devices.

Camellia Chan, Co-Founder and CEO of Flexxon, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “Flexxon is honored to be the first international company to participate in MISI’s engagement with the Maryland Global Gateway Soft Landing Program. This is a significant stride towards Flexxon’s strategic expansion within the U.S. market. By actively elevating cybersecurity standards and fostering innovation across borders, we are resolutely addressing the escalating threat of cybercrime. We welcome MISI’s support and are enthusiastic about the prospect of contributing to the advancement of cybersecurity solutions on a global scale.”

TC Hoot, MISI Senior Program Manager, added, “MISI is honored to play a role in supporting global companies that are interested in bringing innovative, cutting-edge technology to the U.S. Our mission is to work with non-traditional companies that have the potential to address the U.S. Department of Defense and other government cybersecurity needs. We look forward to seeing how companies like Flexxon, with a focus on addressing cybercrime threats, take advantage of this program and to walking with them along their journey.”
