Synology, a renowned technology company, has recently launched BeeDrive, a compact data hub designed to provide seamless backup capabilities for personal files and photos across multiple devices. With a quick and effortless setup process, BeeDrive ensures fast local transfer speeds, complete data privacy, and ownership, making it an ideal choice for individuals seeking a reliable and private alternative for their data backup needs.

In today’s digital age, the amount of data generated by individuals on various personal devices is growing at an unprecedented rate. With the rise of high-quality cameras and new photo and video formats, the demand for storage space is surging faster than ever before. Unfortunately, internet upload speeds have failed to keep up with this explosive growth, resulting in slower and more expensive cloud storage solutions. To address this challenge, Synology aims to offer a local, private alternative with the introduction of BeeDrive.

David Hu, the product manager at Synology Inc., emphasized the need for a user-friendly backup solution that caters to a broader user base. He stated, “BeeDrive offers a no-hassle option even for the families and friends of current Synology users. We want to bring Synology’s expertise in backup technologies to a larger group of users who are computer-literate but lack the time or networking knowledge required to host a 24/7 server solely for backup purposes.”

With BeeDrive, users can easily protect their files by selecting the desired folders for backup. The data hub automatically backs up all changes in real time, offering a superior recovery point objective (RPO) compared to scheduled hourly backups. In case of a computer failure, users can simply connect BeeDrive to another computer and access their files instantly, without the need for software installation or time-consuming recovery processes.

BeeDrive also provides seamless backup capabilities for photos and videos on iOS and Android devices. By keeping the BeeDrive connected to PCs and mobile devices within the same network, users can initiate the backup process by scanning a QR code. This feature ensures that both phones and tablets are protected, freeing up valuable space on the devices. The drive also overcomes the bandwidth limitations imposed by internet or cloud service providers, offering an impressive backup speed that is 11 times faster than backing up large files to the cloud from a PC and six times faster from mobile devices.

Moreover, BeeDrive introduces the innovative BeeDrop feature, which allows professionals and field staff to wirelessly transfer content generated on iOS and Android devices to BeeDrive. This enables immediate access to the files on a PC, eliminating the need for uploading and downloading files from the cloud. Additionally, BeeDrive facilitates two-way synchronization between work and home computers, ensuring that files are always up-to-date on the computer in use while keeping a second copy on BeeDrive.

David Hu expressed his vision for BeeDrive’s future, stating, “Collecting files generated from all our personal devices is just the first step. In the future, we hope to leverage the abundant computing resources of a computer to help users extract more value from the data itself, such as through auto-categorization. It is always our goal to bring modern technologies to Synology users without sacrificing their data privacy and ownership.”

BeeDrive will be available in 1TB and 2TB capacities from mid-June, offering support for Windows, iOS, and Android devices. MRSP: 1TB SGD 219, 2TB SGD 379.

Synology plans to extend support to macOS in the near future.
