Huawei, the global technology giant, has launched its latest regional center for joint solution innovation, Solution R&D, Partner Enablement & Development, and Industry Experience, in Singapore. The Asia-Pacific OpenLab 3.0, which is a US$20 million project, was officially launched by Mr. Goh Pei Sheng, Vice President of Digital Industry Singapore (DISG).

The OpenLab 3.0 is aimed at accelerating technological progression and achieving innovation excellence in the Asia-Pacific region, and beyond. It brings together industry talents and ICT capabilities, serving as a base for ecosystem cooperation in the region. Over 60 partners and guests from the technology sector, public sector, industry associations, and universities attended the ceremony.

Huawei will cooperate with local partners to create customer-centric and innovative horizontal solutions, such as Smart Campus and Smart Classroom, tapping into the capabilities of the platform. The company will leverage its advantages in advanced network, storage, optical, and wireless ICT infrastructure, as well as its leading capabilities in cloud and AI fields, to build an industry ecosystem. This will accelerate digital transformation in public service, finance, transportation, energy, and other industries, cultivating future-oriented capabilities to strengthen Singapore’s position as the regional hub of innovation.

“The booming digital economy in the Asia-Pacific region will lead to new innovative services and applications. To accelerate the digitalization of industries, a more open and diversified industry ecosystem is required,” said Mr. Nicholas Ma, President of Huawei APAC Enterprise Business Group. “OpenLab 3.0 is a global technology platform for partners and institutions of higher learning in the Asia-Pacific region. It provides innovative industry solutions based on the demands of various industries and continuously contributes to building a digital Asia-Pacific region.”

Huawei’s talent development model, PIPES, which stands for Platforms, Innovation, Professionalism, Experience, and Skills, will be implemented in the OpenLab 3.0. This model delivers targeted talent programs for individuals from all walks of life to foster an inclusive talent ecosystem in the Asia Pacific region. The OpenLab 3.0 will serve as a platform for innovation, experience, and know-how sharing, and will emerge as a pivotal hub for talent cultivation across the region.

Huawei’s Cloud OpenLab, a partner-oriented solution integration & verification platform, was also launched at the ceremony. The company’s partners, Mr. Simon Chung, President Global Business Division, Chinasoft International, and Mr. Jeffrey Yam, Director-Founder, Maxxmedia International, shared their collaboration journey with Huawei in incubating Smart Campus and Smart Classroom solutions during the ceremony, respectively.

Huawei’s OpenLab in Singapore was launched in 2016, and to date, it has welcomed over 6000 industry visitors from the APAC region and forged collaborations with more than 100 partners to create customer-centric solutions. Huawei has established OpenLabs across the globe, in Suzhou, Munich, Istanbul, Dubai, and beyond, jointly developing and launching technologies and solutions with more than 400 partners worldwide.

According to the 2022 Annual Report released today, Huawei invested CNY161.5 billion in R&D worldwide in 2022, accounting for 25.1% of its annual revenue. Huawei is highly committed to promoting technological innovation and aims to incubate and enable more future-oriented local applications and innovative solutions, while promoting them to the entire Asia-Pacific region to support digital transformation of various industries.
