BMW Announces New All-Electric Models for 5 Series Sedan and Touring

BMW has revealed plans to launch a new all-electric version of its 5 Series Sedan, which will debut later this year. The eighth generation of the popular business sedan boasts a fresh design, BMW Operating System 8.5 with BMW Curved Display, innovative digital services, and a flexible powertrain architecture that offers all-electric, plug-in hybrid, petrol, and diesel options.

At the BMW Group Annual Conference 2023, Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, announced that the new BMW 5 Series Sedan will be available as an all-electric BMW M Performance model, following the success of the all-electric BMW i4 M50. Zipse also revealed that the 5 Series Touring will be available in an all-electric version from spring 2024.

The BMW Group has been expanding its all-electric offerings across all its brands, with premium mobility options ranging from small and compact vehicles to luxury models. The new all-electric BMW 5 Series Sedan and Touring will further cement the company’s position as a leader in the premium electric vehicle market.

Over the past 50 years and seven model generations, the BMW 5 Series Sedan has become the most successful business sedan in the world, with over 10 million units produced. The new models will be built exclusively at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing in Lower Bavaria, which also serves as the company’s largest manufacturing site in Europe and home to the competence centre for electric drive system production.

The worldwide launch of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan will begin in October 2023, offering customers a harmonious balance of sporty driving pleasure and long-distance comfort. With the introduction of all-electric models, BMW is continuing its commitment to sustainable mobility and pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle technology.
