You can now export your Facebook photos and videos to Google Photos

Facebook has announced a new data transfer tool that will allow you to migrate your photos and videos to your Google Photos account.

Named Data Transfer Project, the initiative aims to provide you with the ease of transferring data from one online service to another. Partners of this collaborative initiative include Google, Microsoft and Twitter.

Currently, this feature is only available between Facebook and Google Photos.

According to Facebook, the data transfer will not affect the quality of your photos and videos. The social media giant also shared that all data will be encrypted and will require you to re-enter passwords on both online platforms to ensure data privacy and security.

How to transfer your media files

  • Go to Settings
  • Under Your Facebook Information, select View under Download Your Information
  • Choose the destination as Google Photos and you will be directed to Google to login your details.
  • Confirm and start transferring your data.

The tool is now available in Singapore, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Brazil, Egypt, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Mexico.
