Sony's new Bluetooth wireless camera remote - Wireless Remote Commander

Finally. Sony has launched a new way of operating your camera and that’s through its new Bluetooth wireless remote. They called it the Wireless Remote Commander or if you prefer a more intellectual way of saying it, RMT-P1BT.

In the not-so-distant past, what photographers carried were wired cables or peripherals that require receivers to snap a photo in high exposure setting or to use the bulb feature for fireworks.

Now with the new Wireless Remote Commander, photographers can save on bringing additional cables for leisure or for work. Connect it directly to compatible cameras like the Sony a6400, a7 III, a7R III, and a9 and it should work.

But one thing photographers should take note of, which comes with all things wireless, is that there will be an unnoticeable release time-lag of 0.05 seconds.

The RMT-P1BT Wireless Remote Commander is not only good for keeping your shutter open or close. It does have some tricks built into its snack-bar body.

According to the press release, Sony says that its new remote “features focus buttons for manual control over subtle focus changes.”

It also sports a customisable button, marked as C1 for you to set a shortcut of your choice. Other functions include Start/Stop video recording, do a power-zoom or a digital zoom.

The RMT-P1BT will be available at selected Sony Stores, Sony Centres and Sony authorised dealers from April 2019.

So keep your eyes peeled for it.
