New Apple AirPods | Gen 2

After all the rumours that have been spreading like wildfire about what to expect from the new AirPods, it’s finally out.

Apple has unveiled the long-awaited new AirPods today, which will come with a standard charging case and a wireless charging case that cost S$239 and S$299 respectively.

You can also get the standalone wireless charging case for S$119 if your current AirPods are working fine and that you are just FOMO about not having a wireless charging case.

While the aesthetics of the new AirPods don’t look all that dissimilar to the previous generation, there’s actually been quite a number of upgrades done to them.

The new AirPods, which is NOT called AirPods 2, now has a new Apple-designed H1 chip that is created to deliver “performance efficiencies, faster connect times, more talk time and the convenience of hands-free “Hey Siri.”

That’s right. You no longer have to tap on your AirPods to wake Siri up. You can now call him/her the normal way by saying, “Hey Siri.”

Also, Apple shared that the H1 chip will allow you to have up to 50 per cent more talk time than the first generation AirPods. And if you need more juice for more hours of listening time, the charging cases will provide enough charge for more than 24 hours.

Another good news is that the wireless charging capability of the wireless charging case is not a proprietary one. So you can just place the case on any Qi-compatible charging solutions to charge it. Adding convenience to this new method of charging your AirPods, Apple also included an LED light indicator on the front of the case so that you are aware of the charge status.

The new AirPods are now available to order on apple.com/sg and the Apple Store app soon, and in Apple Stores later this spring.
