Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) has become the first tourism destination in Singapore to use predictive artificial intelligence for district cooling, through a partnership with Honeywell Technologies.
Key Takeaways
- RWS is the first tourism destination in Singapore to deploy predictive AI for district cooling, working with Honeywell Technologies.
- The initiative spans three programmes: smarter air-conditioning, demand-anticipating cooling, and Honeywell Forge energy insights.
- Buildings make up more than 20 per cent of Singapore’s emissions, and RWS is targeting carbon neutrality by 2030.
Three programmes make up the cooling initiative
The predictive AI system covers three separate programmes at RWS: smarter air-conditioning controls, cooling that anticipates demand ahead of time rather than reacting to it, and energy insights generated through the Honeywell Forge platform.
Buildings account for more than a fifth of Singapore’s emissions
Buildings make up more than 20 per cent of Singapore’s total emissions, underlining why cooling systems have become a target for efficiency gains. RWS has set a goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2030, and the new predictive AI system builds on a cloud-based building management system the resort first deployed in 2023.
Executives link the project to a longer sustainability push
Munish Suri, President of Building Automation for India and APAC at Honeywell Technologies, framed the deployment as part of a wider push to apply predictive technology to energy-intensive building operations across the region. Kess Chiang, Senior Vice President of Resort Services at RWS, tied the move to the resort’s continuing efforts to reduce energy consumption as it works towards its 2030 carbon-neutrality target.
