Tencent Cloud has been named to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s new Agentic Finance Expert Group, as the regulator moves to set standards for how AI agents operate inside financial institutions.
Key Takeaways
- The HKMA launched Project SAGE and its Agentic Finance Expert Group at Hong Kong FinTech Week 2026, with Tencent Cloud named a member.
- Tencent Cloud will focus on interoperability standards, how AI agents from different institutions identify each other, exchange instructions and share data securely.
- Tencent Cloud also showcased new investment research capabilities on WorkBuddy International Edition, its AI agent workstation, which already serves more than 10,000 financial institution customers worldwide.
What Project SAGE is actually for

During Hong Kong FinTech Week 2026, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) launched Project SAGE, Securing Agentic Finance with Governance and Enablement, and set up an Agentic Finance Expert Group to work through it. Tencent Cloud, the cloud arm of Tencent, was named to the group.
The project covers four areas: market development and use case exploration, agent identity, interoperability standards, and legal and regulatory frameworks. Tencent Cloud’s role sits in the interoperability bucket, working out how AI agents belonging to different institutions and platforms can recognise each other, pass instructions accurately and exchange data without creating new security holes.
“Common standards and protocols can help reduce duplicate integration efforts and mitigate risks associated with interactions between systems, providing a critical foundation for the large-scale adoption of Agentic Finance,” said Liming Hu, Vice President of Tencent Cloud.
WorkBuddy picks up investment research

Alongside the HKMA announcement, Tencent Cloud used FinTech Week to show off new investment research features on WorkBuddy International Edition, its AI agent desktop workstation launched in May. A user can ask WorkBuddy to pull a company’s financials across its last 12 reported quarters, break down revenue and margin trends, and generate a draft research report with the original sources kept intact, cutting out a chunk of the manual data-gathering that research normally starts with.
According to Tencent, the tool is built around human-in-the-loop use: it handles the data-gathering and synthesis, but the actual investment judgment stays with the professional using it. WorkBuddy already supports more than 10,000 financial institution customers globally across banking, insurance, securities and asset management.
