Dell Technologies has launched two rugged laptops for field workers, the Dell Pro Rugged 13 Extreme and the Dell Pro Rugged 14, with availability due in early October.

Dell says the AI-ready rugged laptops are designed for government, public safety, manufacturing, oil and gas, transportation and utilities. Both are MIL-STD-810H certified for temperatures from -29°C to 62°C, and their displays support multi-touch with gloves or in wet conditions.

Rugged laptops built for long field shifts

Both models run on Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors, which Dell says offload AI and background tasks to keep the systems responsive. Optional private 5G, Wi-Fi 7 and GPS cover connectivity and location tracking in remote areas, while hot-swappable batteries are meant to keep workers going through the longest shifts. Both offer a camera of up to 5MP with RGB and infrared sensors, and a built-in Rugged Control Center app lets users configure the GPS module and set custom hardware shortcuts.

Dell Pro Rugged 13 Extreme: fully rugged AI PC

Based on its internal analysis from August 2026, Dell describes the 13 Extreme as the most powerful and smallest fully rugged 13-inch AI PC. It has an IP66 rating for protection against dust and water and has been drop-tested from 1.8 metres.

Dell Pro Rugged 14: semi-rugged AI PC with discrete graphics

Dell says the 14 is the smallest and most powerful 14-inch semi-rugged AI PC, again based on its August 2026 analysis. It weighs about 2.13kg, has an IP53 rating and offers close to one metre of drop protection.

Security and fleet management for IT teams

Both laptops include TPM 2.0, contacted and contactless smart card readers, fingerprint readers and infrared cameras for Windows Hello facial recognition. Dell SafeID with ControlVault and BIOS-level defences, now with quantum-resistant protections, make them the world’s most secure rugged PCs, according to Dell’s internal analysis from September 2026. For large fleets, the laptops support cloud-based deployment and management tools, backed by Dell ProSupport and predictive maintenance.

“Field workers keep critical operations running no matter the conditions, and their technology needs to do the same,” said Charlie Walker, head of product for Dell Pro Precision and Dell Pro Rugged at Dell Technologies.

Availability

Both rugged laptops will be available in early October. Dell did not disclose pricing or regional availability details in the release.
