Anthropic will open an office in Singapore this October, its fifth in Asia-Pacific after Tokyo, Bengaluru, Seoul and Sydney. Dale Finlay has joined the company as General Manager of ASEAN and will be based in Singapore, working with customers and partners across Southeast Asia.
The expansion is driven by enterprise demand for Claude, with Anthropic pointing to Singapore’s outsized usage as a key factor. According to the company’s Economic Index, Singapore ranks second out of 121 countries in Claude.ai usage relative to population, with usage 5.81 times higher than its population size alone would predict.
Why Singapore, in Anthropic’s own words
“As we grow across Asia-Pacific, opening an office in Singapore—where Claude usage per capita is among the highest in the world—is a natural next step,” said Chris Ciauri, Managing Director of International at Anthropic. “A presence here means we can hire the people who know this market best, and work side by side with local customers and partners building with Claude.”
Anthropic says demand in Singapore has been especially strong in regulated sectors such as financial services and government, and the company plans to work with organisations of every size, from startups to large enterprises and the public sector. It frames Singapore’s balance between AI innovation and responsible adoption as closely aligned with its own approach, and says it looks forward to working with local policymakers, research institutions and industry partners.
New ASEAN leadership
Finlay joins Anthropic after nearly a decade in go-to-market leadership roles at Google Cloud spanning AI, financial services and enterprise across Asia-Pacific. “From working with customers across Southeast Asia, I’ve seen that ambition isn’t the blocker to AI adoption—trust is. Once that trust exists, the real work is embedding AI into how the business actually operates,” he said. “Anthropic has built Claude around exactly those standards, and I look forward to working with customers here as they bring Claude into their most important work.”
Anthropic is hiring for a range of roles in Singapore ahead of the October opening, with senior leaders expected to visit for the launch and to meet customers, partners and policymakers.
