ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) has surpassed its 2028 carbon intensity target three years ahead of schedule, as the Singapore-headquartered provider scales its infrastructure to meet surging demand from AI-driven workloads.

The milestone was disclosed in the company’s 2025 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report, its sixth annual edition, themed “Scaling with Responsibility.” The report sets out how STT GDC is embedding sustainability, resilience and governance into how it designs, builds, finances and operates its global data centre platform.

Carbon and energy gains ahead of schedule

STT GDC reported a 70.5 per cent reduction in carbon intensity from its 2021 baseline, surpassing its 2028 target early, alongside a 15.2 per cent year-on-year cut in absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions. Some 83.2 per cent of its electricity consumption was sourced from renewable energy, supporting a transition towards carbon-neutral operations by 2030.

The provider achieved an average Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.44, a 13.0 per cent improvement from its 2020 baseline, while Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) improved by 41.2 per cent over the same period. Some 48 per cent of its data centres have achieved green building certification.

The report frames responsible growth as a core business discipline, linking sustainability performance to long-term asset resilience, customer trust and operational excellence. The findings come as data centre operators face mounting pressure to deliver capacity for AI and digital growth while managing energy efficiency, resource constraints, climate risks and operational resilience.

Workforce, safety and governance

On the social front, STT GDC recorded zero work-related fatalities and a Total Recordable Incident Rate of 0.1 across more than 41 million hours worked. The Group logged an average of 18 training hours per employee, 21.7 per cent women representation, and expanded talent initiatives including its DC Power Up programme and partnerships with 10 Institutes of Higher Learning across its markets.

On governance, all employees completed anti-corruption training, while the Group incorporated climate, cybersecurity and operational risks into enterprise-wide planning, including executive-level cyber exercises across key facilities. STT GDC operates across 12 markets spanning Singapore, the UK, Germany, Italy, India, Thailand, South Korea, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Malaysia and Vietnam.
