Samsung Unveils Flex Titanium for Galaxy Foldables

Samsung has unveiled Flex Titanium, a new display technology for its next generation of Galaxy foldable devices that integrates two titanium-based components to reduce crease visibility and improve durability, ahead of Galaxy Unpacked July 2026.

Built on seven generations of foldable innovation, Samsung said the redesigned display structure uses structural and material advancements to deliver a more refined viewing experience. Flex Titanium integrates a titanium-alloy film and a titanium plate working together to balance slimness, flexibility and strength within the foldable display structure.

Why titanium, and why it’s hard to engineer

Samsung said building a display that stays immersive while withstanding everyday use required a material strong enough to resist external shock, flexible enough to endure repeated folding, and thin enough to fit within a refined device structure. Titanium — already used in demanding applications such as satellite antennas and Mars rover wheels — offered that combination, though its natural stiffness poses engineering challenges in a thin, flexible foldable structure.

The titanium-alloy film sits below the OLED panel and supports the display from within, providing 20 times greater mechanical stiffness than polymer film. A precision rolling process makes it roughly one-third the thickness of an average human hair, enabling a slimmer display panel. Beneath that sits a titanium plate, a flexible structure that supports the display module from underneath; advanced hole processing technology allows tighter bonding with the display module by eliminating air gaps, providing more stable support when unfolded while retaining the flexibility needed for repeated folding.

Samsung said the new display also integrates a high-resolution architecture and next-generation organic materials, delivering sharper resolution while reducing power consumption.

“By introducing sophisticated micro-patterned holes to the folding section of the titanium plate, we have successfully secured flexibility with robust durability. Combining high-resolution display architecture with new organic materials that maximize power efficiency, we will further strengthen the competitiveness of next-generation Galaxy foldable devices,” said Kyung-Jin Yoo, EVP and Head of Mobile Display Product Development Team, Samsung Display.
