L’Oréal Opens Beauty Tech Programme to APAC and Middle East Startups

L’Oréal has opened applications for its 2026 Big Bang Beauty Tech Innovation Program, the company’s flagship open innovation competition targeting startups across South Asia Pacific, Middle East and North Africa (SAPMENA). Now in its third year, the programme is positioning itself as the primary commercial launchpad for beauty technology ventures in the region.

Winners receive a fully funded commercial pilot with one of L’Oréal’s 40 international brands, access to potential scale across 35 SAPMENA markets, and a year of mentorship from the company’s senior leadership and programme partners. Seven startups from previous cohorts have already progressed to commercial pilots.

Three structural shifts driving the 2026 themes

The 2026 edition has been updated around three trends L’Oréal sees reshaping the beauty industry: AI-powered commerce, creator and affiliate-led ecosystems, and the circular economy. Startups can apply under five strategic themes: Connected Brand Experience, Creators & Affiliates, AI-Powered Commerce, Science for Beauty, and Innovation for Good.

Vismay Sharma, President of L’Oréal SAPMENA Zone, described the region as a potential “Silicon Valley” for beauty technology, citing the rapid growth of digital commerce among young, digitally native consumers across the zone’s 35 markets.

2025 winners demonstrate commercial traction

The 2025 cohort illustrates the range of problems the programme is targeting. Without, an Indian materials science startup, is working with L’Oréal to convert previously unrecyclable multilayer plastics into high-quality recyclable materials. Australian startup Heatseeker is piloting real-time consumer intelligence tools to accelerate go-to-market decisions. UAE-based Halo AI is tackling influencer discovery and brand-matching at scale, while India’s Sravathi AI is applying an AI-powered chemistry platform to help L’Oréal identify active ingredients more sustainably.

Singapore’s Wubble AI, which received a special mention rather than a full win, has since completed two paid projects with L’Oréal teams — an outcome its founder described as instrumental in sharpening the company’s product design.

A region with accelerating startup momentum

The SAPMENA region, home to roughly 40 per cent of the world’s population, recorded the strongest annual startup ecosystem growth globally in the 2025 Global Startup Ecosystem Index. Singapore ranked fourth worldwide on the back of 44.9 per cent growth, while Saudi Arabia leapt to 38th place following 236.8 per cent growth.

L’Oréal notes that nearly half of all consumers are now receiving beauty recommendations from generative AI, making the sector one of the most active proving grounds for commercial AI applications. The company generated 44.05 billion euros in sales in 2025 and employs more than 8,000 digital, tech and data professionals globally.

Key dates and eligibility

The programme is open to startups from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Australia and New Zealand. The submission deadline is 3 July 2026. Regional finals will be held across the Middle East, India, Southeast Asia, and Australia and New Zealand between August and September, with the SAPMENA Grand Finale taking place in Singapore in November 2026.

The top three Grand Finale winners will receive a L’Oréal-funded commercial pilot, multi-market scale potential, and year-long mentorship. Successful pilots may also open the door to future global collaborations with L’Oréal.
