WhatsApp rolls out storage controls, dual accounts, and AI tools

WhatsApp has announced a new round of updates aimed at giving users more control over storage, easier device switching, and more expressive conversations — with several features powered by Meta AI.

Key new features

Free up storage, selectively: Users can now locate and delete large files within specific chats without removing the entire conversation. There is also an option to delete only media files while keeping chat history intact, offering more granular control over what takes up space on a device.

Cross-platform chat transfer: WhatsApp has expanded its chat transfer feature to support moving chat history from iOS to Android — in addition to transfers within the same operating system. Messages, photos, and videos can be migrated securely in a few steps when switching devices.

Dual accounts on iOS: Multiple account support, previously available only on Android, is now coming to iOS. Users can log into two WhatsApp accounts on the same device, with a visible profile indicator to distinguish between them — useful for keeping work and personal conversations separate.

Sticker suggestions: WhatsApp will now suggest stickers based on emojis typed in a conversation, making it faster to find contextually relevant stickers.

AI photo editing: Users can edit photos directly within chats before sending, using Meta AI to remove unwanted elements, change backgrounds, or apply creative styles. Availability may vary by region.

AI Writing Help: WhatsApp’s Writing Help feature is being expanded to suggest replies based on the context of a conversation, while keeping messages private.

Gradual rollout

All features are rolling out gradually and will become available to more users over time. WhatsApp described the updates as part of its broader efforts to provide a simple, reliable, and private messaging experience while giving users more flexibility.
