Publisher 2K has launched early access for NBA 2K26 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, ahead of its worldwide release on 5 September 2025. The latest entry in the long-running basketball video game series introduces new gameplay mechanics, expanded modes, and deeper integration of women’s basketball.

Early Access and Editions

The Superstar Edition and Leave No Doubt Edition are now available through early access. Other versions, including the Standard Edition and WNBA Edition, will follow on multiple platforms from 5 September. This includes PlayStation 5 and 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

New Features and Gameplay

The most significant change is the new ProPLAY Motion Engine, which uses machine learning to deliver smoother, more realistic player movement. According to developer Visual Concepts, the system introduces advanced offensive mechanics such as rhythm shooting, signature post shots, and expanded dribbling options.

The MyCAREER mode also features a new storyline, Out of Bounds, where players begin as a small-town prospect striving for NBA recognition. Meanwhile, The City returns with a redesigned layout, seasonal Park environments, and a new “Crews” feature that lets players form affiliations.

WNBA Integration

For the first time, WNBA athletes will be fully integrated into MyTEAM, the franchise’s popular card-collecting mode. Players can build mixed rosters of NBA and WNBA stars, with matching attributes and gameplay balance across both leagues. Dedicated WNBA content, including uniforms, courts, and a new Domination tier, will also be available.

Expanded Modes

MyTEAM itself has been reworked with new cards, expanded multiplayer options including 10-player co-op, and fresh game modes such as Breakout: Gauntlet. Classic features such as Sunset Beach also make a return.

Other updates include new tools in MyPLAYER Builder to guide character creation and expanded role-playing scenarios in MyNBA, with 30 new offseason management challenges.

As with recent editions, NBA 2K26 will run on a seasonal structure. Each of the eight planned seasons will last six weeks, offering 40 levels of rewards. An optional paid “Pro Pass” will add another 40 levels of premium items per season.

The global release of NBA 2K26 on 5 September will extend availability to older consoles and the newly launched Nintendo Switch 2. The early access launch positions the title ahead of the annual NBA season tip-off in October, with further seasonal content expected throughout the year.
