Motorola Solutions has unveiled a pioneering initiative to demystify artificial intelligence (AI) in its safety and security products—introducing ‘AI nutrition labels’ to clearly communicate how AI is used within its technologies.
The first-of-its-kind effort in the public safety and enterprise security sectors is modelled after food nutrition labels and aims to make AI more understandable and accountable to users. Each label will outline key AI components such as the type of AI used, data ownership, human oversight, and the purpose of AI within the specific product.
“It is our unwavering conviction that technology – including AI – is the bedrock for safety and security, and it must be deployed with purpose and transparency to fulfill its promise as a force for good,” said Mahesh Saptharishi, executive vice president and chief technology officer at Motorola Solutions.
A New Benchmark for AI Transparency in Safety Tech

Motorola Solutions’ AI is embedded across its ecosystem of safety and security technologies—from law enforcement tools to critical infrastructure protection systems. These AI systems are designed to assist users with real-time, actionable insights by processing complex information during emergencies.
“Safety threats often unfold at a scale, speed and sophistication that can outstrip any one person’s capacity to make sense of the situation,” Saptharishi said. “AI can ingest, learn and cross-reference data to provide contextual understanding.”
The company says the AI nutrition labels are part of its broader strategy to create an “assisted experience” in critical moments—helping users make faster and more informed decisions when lives are on the line.
Part of Motorola’s Ethical Commitment
The labels are an initiative of the Motorola Solutions Technology Advisory Committee (MTAC), a cross-functional group within the company tasked with providing guidance on the ethical and practical implications of product technologies.
The move comes amid growing scrutiny around AI’s role in public services and law enforcement. By being transparent about how AI operates, Motorola Solutions is positioning itself at the forefront of responsible AI deployment.
“Nutrition labels help describe AI’s use in protecting neighbourhoods and nations, and we are proud to take a lead role in bringing greater transparency to AI innovation,” added Saptharishi.
This transparency push aligns with the company’s broader mission to support safer communities, schools, and businesses through ethical innovation.
