BMW Asia unveiled the new iteration of its fully electric iX Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), delivering sharper performance, a longer range, and a refreshed user experience—all while retaining its monolithic design and sustainability promise.
The new BMW iX xDrive45 now packs 300 kW (408 hp) of system output—an increase of 82 hp—thanks to enhanced power electronics and dual electric motors. This allows the vehicle to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.1 seconds, a full second quicker than its predecessor. Top speed remains electronically limited to 200 km/h.
Range has been significantly extended to up to 602 km, compared with 425 km previously, due in large part to a redesigned battery system with 94.8 kWh capacity—a 30 per cent jump in energy content—and new inverter technology that improves energy efficiency.
“This new BMW iX has now been upgraded across the board – with a glowing kidney grille, the ability to stream YouTube videos and play games on the control display, a newly-improved digital key, and much better range,” said Lars Nielsen, Managing Director, BMW Group Asia. “It is clearly built for those who want comfort, space, and long-distance capability in an electric vehicle.”
Design and Features
Visually, the new iX maintains its bold and minimalist styling but introduces subtle updates including adaptive LED headlights with vertical elements, an illuminated ‘Iconic Glow’ kidney grille, and body-coloured bumpers. A new M Sport package adds sharper lines, aggressive air intakes, and darkened light elements for a sportier profile.
Customers can now choose from a broader palette of paint finishes including new metallic shades like Arctic Race Blue and Space Silver, along with high-end BMW Individual options.
Inside, the iX continues its premium direction with the option of M multifunction seats, a two-tone instrument panel with M accents, and an expanded suite of tech features. BMW’s latest iDrive 8.5 operating system powers the curved display and offers new services including video streaming, in-car gaming, and enhanced route planning with personalised charging preferences via the My BMW App.
BMW Digital Key Plus, standard on all variants, lets drivers unlock and start the car with their smartphones or smartwatches using ultra-wideband (UWB) tech—no traditional key needed.
Smarter Charging and Local Support
Charging capabilities have also been optimised. The new iX supports 175 kW DC fast charging, with improved battery pre-conditioning to reduce wait times. Home users will receive a BMW Wallbox with complimentary installation, while public charging is supported through a partnership with Shell Recharge, offering up to 10,000 kWh of free charging over three years—equivalent to 50,000 km of range.
In Singapore, BMW EV drivers will have access to one of the largest networks of public chargers across commercial and industrial locations, all accessible via RFID card or mobile app.
Ride, Handling and Safety
Chassis enhancements and optimised suspension settings aim to balance dynamic performance and comfort. All Singapore-bound models come standard with 21-inch aerodynamic wheels and adaptive suspension with hill descent control.
The iX is also equipped with a comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems including Driving Assistant Plus with Stop & Go, 3D Surround View, and an optional Parking Assistant Professional which enables remote-controlled parking via smartphone.
Local Assembly and Sustainability
The BMW iX continues to be produced at the company’s Dingolfing plant in Germany, which serves as BMW’s centre of excellence for electric drive production in Europe.
With its latest round of improvements, the iX is positioned to better compete with rivals like the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV and Audi Q8 e-tron, while reinforcing BMW’s claim to leadership in the luxury EV segment.
