Synology has launched BeeStation Plus, its newest plug-and-play personal storage solution, aiming to give families and professionals a powerful yet easy-to-use alternative to mainstream cloud services. The device boasts 8TB of storage, local AI capabilities, and support for popular applications like Plex, all while prioritising user privacy and data security.
The BeeStation Plus is the latest entry in its BeeStation lineup, a series of storage devices designed for users seeking the convenience of cloud storage without the technical hurdles or ongoing subscription costs. With a significant performance boost—up to 4.8 times faster than the original model—the BeeStation Plus offers expanded features for photo management, media streaming, and secure data backup.

At its core, BeeStation Plus automatically consolidates and backs up content from smartphones, computers, external drives and even cloud photo libraries. Built-in AI allows for fast and private photo searches by recognising people or objects—without ever uploading data to the cloud.
For media enthusiasts, Synology has integrated Plex Media Server support directly into the device. Users can stream their personal collections of films, TV shows, and home videos across multiple devices, transforming the BeeStation Plus into a portable home theatre hub.
The device also raises the bar in data protection. With snapshot-based recovery points and a free three-month subscription to Synology’s BeeProtect cloud backup service, users can quickly implement a 3-2-1 backup strategy—widely regarded as best practice for data safety. BeeProtect provides offsite protection with end-to-end encryption, ensuring only users have access to their files, even in the event of theft or disaster.
