Sony has unveiled the WH-1000XM6, the sixth-generation wireless noise-cancelling headphones in its acclaimed 1000X series. Slated to hit shelves in Singapore in June at S$649, the new model promises a significant upgrade in sound quality, noise cancellation, and intelligent listening—co-developed with Grammy-winning audio engineers.
With a re-engineered HD Noise Cancelling Processor (QN3) that is seven times faster than its predecessor, the WH-1000XM6 brings real-time adaptive noise cancelling powered by 12 microphones—up from eight in the WH-1000XM5. The result, according to Sony, is the brand’s most precise noise cancellation yet, tailored to environmental conditions and the shape of the listener’s ears.
Beyond silence, Sony’s latest flagship aims for sonic precision. Co-created with top mastering engineers from Sterling Sound, Battery Studios and Coast Mastering—including Randy Merrill (Adele, Taylor Swift) and Mike Piacentini (Depeche Mode, James Brown)—the headphones are designed to reproduce music with studio-level accuracy.
“Sony has always been a benchmark for premium quality, and the WH-1000XM6 headphones take it to a new level,” said Merrill. “They transport me to a different world with their excellent bass, frequency response, soundstage and detail.”
Piacentini added: “With the WH-1000XM6, listeners will have a more enjoyable experience because they’re hearing every emotion, engineering decision and songwriting choice that the artist and engineer have made.”
Sony also fine-tuned the headphones for modern digital use. Powered by LDAC for High-Resolution Audio and AI-assisted DSEE Extreme upscaling, the headphones aim to recover sound details lost during compression. A suite of smart features like Auto Ambient Sound, Game EQ, and Scene-based Listening ensures adaptive audio based on the user’s environment or activity.
Call quality has also received a boost. With a six-microphone beamforming array and AI-powered noise suppression, the WH-1000XM6 is engineered to isolate voice from background chatter—even in crowded spaces.
In terms of design, the headphones retain the series’ minimalist aesthetic while refining comfort. They now feature wider vegan leather headbands and softer earpads for prolonged wear, along with intuitive physical buttons and touch controls. The foldable structure uses advanced metal injection moulding for added durability and portability.
Available in Black, Platinum Silver, and Midnight Blue, the WH-1000XM6 also embraces sustainability with packaging made entirely from Sony’s Original Blended Material—a paper-based composite of bamboo, sugarcane fibres and recycled paper.
Sony has roped in music superstar Post Malone for its global campaign, underscoring its commitment to musical authenticity. “These new noise cancelling headphones make you feel completely inside the music,” Malone said.
To mark the launch, Sony is offering trade-in discounts of up to S$150 from 16 May to 30 June, alongside a free personalised name tag redemption with every purchase.
