Syfe, Asia’s leading saving and investment platform, has unveiled an exciting new initiative: Investing, Simplified. This financial education series is designed to make investing accessible for beginners, addressing the critical issue of financial literacy in Singapore. Shockingly, over 60% of Singaporeans lack understanding of essential financial concepts like interest, inflation, and risk diversification.

Bridging the Financial Literacy Gap

Financial literacy is the backbone of effective investing. With a mission to empower Singaporeans to build their wealth, Syfe’s initiative aims to bridge the gap between knowledge and action. This aligns with government financial literacy programs like MoneySense.

Samantha Horton, Chief Operating Officer, Syfe

“Less than 40% of Singaporeans have a strong understanding of key principles that are important for investing,” says Samantha Horton, Chief Operating Officer at Syfe. “This prevents people from investing effectively or puts them off altogether, causing many to miss out on opportunities to build their wealth and protect their money against inflation. Investing, Simplified aligns with our mission to empower people to build their wealth for a better future, and the first step towards empowerment is knowledge.”

The Importance of Financial Education

A Cambridge University Press study highlights the importance of financial literacy. Singaporeans who correctly answered questions on the “Big Three” of financial literacy—interest, inflation, and risk diversification—were almost three times more likely to be investors. However, only 39% could answer all questions correctly, with a significant gender gap: 33% of women versus 45% of men answered correctly.

Making Investing Accessible

Investing, Simplified aims to demystify investing, breaking down complex financial concepts into simple, digestible content. The series includes short videos and long-form articles covering a range of topics:

The series also addresses the proliferation of misleading or incomplete investment advice found online. “People commonly get investment advice from websites and social media influencers, as well as friends and family,” explains Ms. Horton. “There is plenty of good advice out there, but also lots of terrible advice. How should a beginner know the difference? We realized most free resources are not comprehensive or digestible enough to help novices invest safely and confidently, so we decided to create a series where individuals can access objective, simplified, and yet actionable advice in one place.”

Investing, Simplified is delivered by Syfe executives and wealth advisors through the Syfe website at https://www.syfe.com/learn, with videos also available on Syfe’s YouTube channel.
