WhatsApp is introducing a new feature aimed at improving user safety in group messaging. Now, if you’re added to a group by someone you don’t know, a context card will provide crucial information about the group. This includes details on who added you, how recently the group was created, and who created it. With this information, you can decide whether to stay in the group or leave, and review safety tools to stay secure on WhatsApp.

This feature is particularly useful if you’ve just met new people and haven’t saved their contacts yet. It helps confirm whether the group is familiar or if you prefer not to be part of it.
This update adds another layer of safety and security for WhatsApp users, complementing existing features like silencing unknown callers, chat lock, in-app privacy check-ups, and controlling who can add you to groups. It mirrors the current experience in 1:1 messaging, where users receive more context when messaged by someone unfamiliar.
The rollout of this feature has already begun and will be available to all users in the coming weeks.
