Singapore – The Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES) has announced the appointment of Engineer (Er.) Chan Ewe Jin as its 30th President at the 58th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on 25 May 2024. Er. Chan succeeds Mr. Dalson Chung and will lead IES for the next two years.
In his inaugural address, Er. Chan outlined a comprehensive strategy to elevate the engineering profession. His approach focuses on strengthening IES’s foundational pillars: engineering excellence, professional development, professional registration, and internationalisation. He emphasised the need to enhance professional accreditation for engineers, with plans to advance the IES Chartered Engineers programme and refine accreditation processes for greater efficiency, particularly in high-demand sectors like sustainability.
Er. Chan also stressed the importance of member-centric initiatives, aiming to enhance membership services, attract new members, and engage aspiring young engineers. He stated, “As the world’s challenges grow increasingly complex, IES will take the driver’s seat in empowering our engineers to tackle future challenges. In the next two years, we will hone our engineers’ skills and enhance their professional recognition to foster a robust engineering core.”
Er. Chan’s vision aligns with Singapore’s national goals, including the Singapore Green Plan 2030 and the SkillsFuture movement, aiming to drive societal progress and prosperity. He is currently the Managing Director of ECAS Consultants Pte Ltd, a firm renowned for its contributions to major projects such as the Marina Coastal Expressway, Thomson-East Coast Line MRT, and Punggol Northshore HDB project.
Mr. Chung, the outgoing president, was lauded for his contributions, particularly the introduction of the IES Green Plan 2030, which set a robust framework for engineers to support Singapore’s sustainability agenda.
