DataStax, the generative AI data company, has announced the limited public beta of its GitHub Copilot extension, enabling developers to interact with their Astra DB database using natural language. The extension, unveiled during the Microsoft Build keynote presentation in Seattle, allows developers to describe desired data outcomes in natural-language prompts, which Copilot then translates into executable database queries through the Astra DB Data API.

This innovative tool offers developers seamless access to Astra DB via GitHub Copilot Chat, providing intelligent suggestions and code snippets tailored to the database’s schema and metadata.

“The DataStax extension for GitHub Copilot lets developers easily interact with Astra DB, enabling them to access their data and understand their database structure with ease,” said Ed Anuff, Chief Product Officer at DataStax. “Copilot enhances productivity by removing routine coding tasks and improving code quality with context-aware suggestions and autocomplete.”

Developers can access the limited beta of the DataStax extension for GitHub Copilot through the GitHub marketplace.
