A good keyboard is a writer’s best, and I’ve been using all sorts of keyboards. There’s the 87% Tecware gaming keyboard, Logitech K380, Logitech MS Keys, Lofree Mechanical Keyboard, iPad Smart Keyboard Folio, amongst others. But nothing is quite like the ASUS ROG AZOTH.
The ASUS ROG AZOTH is a 75% wireless gaming mechanical keyboard that is hot-swappable, allowing you to customise key caps and potentially the entire keyboard.
What’s in the box
The ASUS ROG AZOTH comes well-equipped with accessories for DIY Switch Lubing, including:
- A switch opener
- A keycap puller
- A switch puller
- A lube station
- A brush
- A bottle of Krytox™ GPL-205-GD0 lubricant
Additionally, there’s a USB-C cable for wired connection and a USB extender.
The weight of the keyboard may throw some off though. It is relatively heavy, which is what I preferred during gameplay. But for writing, I much prefer a lighter one for ease of mobility.
How’s the typing experience?
Coming from an 87% keyboard from Tecware, this keyboard takes a little getting used to due to its shorter key pitch. The key travel is also shorter, allowing for quicker responses in fast-paced games.
The ROG NXT keys are clicky but not to the point of waking up your household when you type. As a fan of thocky keyboards, I’ll need to modify it slightly. However, for gamers who prefer good plug-and-play gaming keyboards, this is an excellent choice.
What’s that 2-inch LED screen about
You probably noticed the small LED screen at the top right corner, along with a knob, and a button on its side. It displays the keyboard status, like Caps Lock, connection mode, and PC/Mac mode indicators. It shows battery level, custom animations, and system parameters such as CPU temperature with its software, Armoury Crate. You can also add your own image to the screen. Neat!

- Material: A third of the keyboard is composed of aluminium, while the remaining portion is plastic.

With its comprehensive set of tools for DIY switch lubing and hot-swappable keys, it is particularly appealing for those interested in customising their setup.
The inclusion of a unique LED screen and ergonomic design further enhance its usability across different operating systems and connection modes.
Although it may require a slight adjustment period due to its key pitch and travel, its stable build and responsive keys make it an excellent choice for gaming and typing.
