Sony Unveils New XAV-1600 Car AV Receiver with Enhanced Smartphone Integration and Safety Features

Sony has introduced its latest innovation in automotive technology, the XAV-1600 car AV receiver, set to hit selected car audio dealers in Singapore starting May 2024. This new model aims to elevate the in-car audio experience with advanced connectivity options and a focus on user-friendly and safety-oriented features.

The XAV-1600 is designed to seamlessly integrate with smartphones through the WebLink® platform, allowing users to access their favorite apps and content directly from the receiver’s 6.75-inch anti-glare touchscreen. This integration caters to the growing demand for smart, connected features within vehicles, which enhance both entertainment and functionality on the road.

Among the most notable features is the ability to play YouTube™ videos through the WebLink® app, though for safety, this feature is disabled while the vehicle is in motion. The receiver also supports hands-free calling and wireless audio streaming via Bluetooth®, and incorporates Quick Wake Up technology to ensure the system is ready almost instantly after the ignition is turned on.

Sound quality is a major emphasis for the XAV-1600, which is equipped with a powerful 4-channel amplifier capable of delivering up to 55 watts per channel. It includes Sony’s EXTRA BASS™ technology to cut through vehicle noise and a 10-band equalizer to customize audio output. The Dynamic Stage Organizer feature enhances audio signal to improve stereo sound positioning, making it feel as if the music is emanating from the dashboard.

For those looking to expand their system, the receiver offers 3-pre out ports for connection to additional amplifiers and speakers. It is also rear-view camera ready, providing an automatic display from a connected camera when the vehicle reverses, enhancing safety with adjustable parking guidelines.

Reflecting Sony’s commitment to sustainability, the XAV-1600’s packaging is designed with environmental impact in mind, utilizing up to 90% paper materials and reducing ink usage by approximately 80% compared to previous models.
