The vacuum cleaner I have is the walk-the-dog vacuum cleaner. At least that’s what I called it. That’s because it requires me to pull the suction hose like a leash so that I can move the body of the vacuum cleaner around the house. Something like this:
Though the setup is simple, because of how chunky it is and how restrictive it is due to the cord, it often puts me off vacuuming the floor. Yes, I’m lazy, and I know I’m not the only one.
So, when Philips sent over the SpeedPro Max Aqua for a review, I was extremely excited to use it because it requires little to no setup. Plus, it is cordless, which should be a given for all electronics in this day and age.
What’s in the box
The SpeedPro Max Aqua comes with many accessories, which felt like Christmas came early. These accessories include:
- a 360-degree suction nozzle;
- a vacuum nozzle;
- a mop accessory;
- 2 x regular microfibre pad;
- 2 x soft microfibre pad;
- a brush attachment on the tube;
- a mini TurboBrush;
- a replacement filter;
- a wall mount;
- screws for the mount; and
- a charger.
There are no retractable cord and no chunky body. Everything you need – the suction nozzle, brush, dirt container and filter – are all miniaturised so that they fit in your hands.
Suction power
The SpeedPro Max Aqua has three suction modes where 1 is the lowest, 2 is the medium, and when needed, you can push it up to Turbo to remove stubborn dirt or stain.
Making it an effective vacuum cleaner is the Power Cyclone 8 technology and the PowerBlade digital motor, which is capable of generating high airflow of >1000 L/min. The higher the airflow, the better the cleaning performance.
360-degree suction nozzle with LED lights
Speaking of cleaning, the 360-degree suction nozzle, which has become Philips’s signature vacuum attachment, is beating conventional suctions hands down.
Like what the name suggests, it can pick up dirt and dust all around the nozzle. This helps to clean effectively with each stroke forward and backwards. It also allows me to vacuum the corners of the room without having to use the crevice tool.
Similar to the previous edition, SpeedPro Max, the Aqua iteration also has LED lights on the brush head. This lets me see what I’m vacuuming in low-lit areas like underneath the bed and my work desk.
Mopping with the SpeedPro Max Aqua
Vacuuming is only one of the things that the SpeedPro Max Aqua can do. Noticed the word, Aqua? That’s right. Water, which means I can vacuum and mop at the same time.
It’s like a dream come true because vacuuming alone is only the first step for me when it comes to cleaning the floor. I will always follow up with mopping like what my Mum taught me, and it seems like Philips had done some research on the needs of their consumers.
What’s different from my practice is that I don’t need a pail of water and a separate mop anymore. Everything is built into the SpeedPro Max Aqua. Attached to the regular vacuum nozzle is the water tank where you will also find a velcro-on microfibre pad (mopping cloth).
The water tank can hold up to 0.28L of water, which is enough for me to mop two of my rooms without changing water. Given that I don’t need to use any strength to squeeze dry a mop, being able to clean two rooms before refilling is worth it.
And if I don’t feel like mopping, I can detach the vacuum nozzle easily as it is stuck on by magnets in its wheels.
Microfibre pads and maintenance
There are two types of microfibre pads in the box for different types of flooring material you have. One is soft padded, and the other is a regular type, which means you don’t have to worry about the pads damaging your flooring. Notably, the ones that come with the new flats: the parquet material.
To wash the pads, pull it off the velcro and wash it with your hands or your washing machine.
Battery life of the SpeedPro Max Aqua
On a single charge, which took less than five hours during my testing, the SpeedPro Max Aqua lasted me two days because I don’t vacuum that often. But on paper, Philips said that the average runtime is 75 minutes and on Turbo, it will last up to 25 minutes. There’s a battery indicator on the SpeedPro Max Aqua so that I know when I need to have it charged.
Conclusion
Vacuum cleaners have come a long way since its chunky forefathers to the current slim and cordless design.
In this day and age where we want things fast and practical, the SpeedPro Max Aqua offers just what we wanted. This frees us up from sweating over housework and focus on other important things at home.
Using the SpeedPro Max Aqua is convenient, and the ability to vacuum 360 degrees helped me remove cobwebs issue I have at home, especially at the corners of my living room.
The mop eliminates the hassle of me needing to use the traditional mop and pail, squeeze the mop dry and repeat. Now, it is “Vacuum and Mop Time” in a matter of seconds. Plus, it is handheld – best 3 in 1 cleaning combo!
But there are a few things you need to take note of.
- Make sure that you are ready to mop before you fill up the water tank. Else, the water will start seeping out.
- Also, pour out the water after use so that it will not continue to seep after you put it aside.
If you are looking for a fast clean with less time and less effort, the Philips SpeedPro Max Aqua is the one for you. It retails at S$799, and you can get it on the Philips e-store, Courts, BEST Denki and Tangs.
