Jumio Passes Malaysia’s eKYC Assessment with Perfect Score

ASEAN study: Disgruntled Malaysians want regional eCommerce players to step up their game

Jumio, an AI-powered identity verification provider, has successfully completed the Independent eKYC Breakthrough Assessment required by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) with zero exceptions — the first time the company has undergone the assessment.

What the Assessment Covers

BNM’s eKYC framework sets stringent requirements for identity verification vendors operating in Malaysia’s financial sector. The assessment evaluates three core capabilities: identifying fake or manipulated MyKad national identity cards, matching user selfies against ID photos through facial recognition, and detecting liveness to prevent deepfake or spoofing attempts.

Jumio was assessed by LGMS, an independent cybersecurity and assessment firm in Malaysia. The final report confirmed a 100% pass rate across all criteria with zero findings.

What It Means for Malaysian Banks and Fintechs

For financial institutions operating under BNM’s digital onboarding requirements, selecting an eKYC vendor that meets the regulator’s full checklist has historically been a significant hurdle. Jumio’s certification clears that barrier for Malaysian banks and fintechs looking to deploy its platform.

“Banks and fintechs in Malaysia who choose Jumio as their eKYC solution can onboard customers faster, meet or exceed AML expectations, and operate confidently under Malaysia’s evolving digital ID framework.” — Ee Khoon Oon, VP and Managing Director, APAC, Jumio

Jumio has operated in Asia Pacific since 2018, supporting regulated financial institutions across the region with identity verification and compliance solutions. The company has processed more than one billion transactions across over 200 countries and territories.
