Audio-Technica has announced the ATH-ADX7000 open-air headphones, a new flagship model designed and manufactured in Japan that aims to deliver a “pure, natural and precise” listening experience for high-end audio users. The ATH-ADX7000 open-air headphones will be available in Singapore from 4 Dec 2025 at a retail price of S$4,799.
The ATH-ADX7000 is positioned as Audio-Technica’s top True Open-Air model and uses a newly developed High-Concentricity X (Transfer) Dynamic Transducer, or HXDT, driver manufacturing process. The company says the precision-moulded driver improves alignment of key components such as the baffle plate, magnet, voice coil and diaphragm, tightening concentricity tolerances to within ±0.02 mm for more accurate vibration transfer and consistent sound.
The open-back design is intended to reduce internal pressure and resonance by allowing air to move freely through the honeycomb aluminium housings. According to Audio-Technica, this True Open-Air approach relies mainly on diaphragm movement rather than earcup resonance, aiming for clear, natural sound and reduced listening fatigue, even during extended sessions.
New HXDT driver and 490-ohm voice coil
At the core of the ATH-ADX7000 open-air headphones is a 58 mm dynamic driver using the HXDT process. The improved voice coil increases impedance to 490 ohms without adding weight, which the firm says helps deliver faster transients, more defined low-frequency response and a wider dynamic range, albeit requiring higher driving voltage from source equipment.
The company has also refined its Core Mount Technology, first introduced with the earlier ATH-ADX5000, to balance the acoustic impedance of the front and rear driver cavities. This is designed to maintain symmetrical diaphragm motion across the frequency range. The official specifications list a frequency response of 5 Hz to 50,000 Hz and a sensitivity of 100 dB/mW.
Audio-Technica describes the ATH-ADX7000 sound signature as focusing on clarity, openness and natural dynamics. “The ADX7000 delivers a sound signature built on clarity, openness, and natural dynamics,” the company said, adding that the tuning aims to deliver full, controlled bass, detailed but smooth mids and refined treble without harshness.
Lightweight build and interchangeable earpads
The ATH-ADX7000 open-air headphones weigh 275 g with the standard high-density velvet earpads, or 270 g with the supplied Alcantara pads. The housing uses a curved honeycomb aluminium mesh formed through a two-step pressing and punching process to maximise open area for airflow, while a die-cast magnesium frame is employed for strength and vibration damping.
Two earpad options are included in the box. The velvet pads are selected for their acoustic filtering characteristics and breathable comfort, while the Alcantara pads offer a more durable, luxury finish with a slightly different tonal balance. Also supplied are two 3 m nylon-wound detachable cables – a balanced XLR cable and an unbalanced cable with 6.3 mm stereo plug – both using Neutrik and A2DC connectors, along with a hard storage case.
The specifications table in the release lists the ATH-ADX7000 as an open-air dynamic model with A2DC connector jacks, and notes that additional cables and replacement earpads will be sold separately.
Availability and what’s next
In Singapore and the wider South-east Asia region, the ATH-ADX7000 open-air headphones will be sold via the Audio-Technica SEA online store, the Audio-Technica Listening TreeHouse at Funan Mall, and specialist retailers ZeppLiin & Co and Jaben from 4 Dec 2025.
Audio-Technica, which was founded in 1962 and has since expanded from phono cartridges into microphones, headphones and other audio equipment, positions the new model as part of its ongoing effort to refine high-end open-back headphone design. The company has not announced regional bundle promotions or future variants but says it will continue to “forge ahead” in developing products focused on superior sound quality.
