Formatting cheat sheet for your WhatsApp text to your boss

Typing a lengthy status update for your boss or explaining to your spouse why you needed a social outing with friends can be tedious.

Why not make it more engaging?

WhatsApp has introduced new formatting features, building on the long-standing Bold, Italic, Strikethrough, and Monospace options.

Staying updated with the times, the new features include Bullet List, Numbered List, Blockquote and Inline Code.

Here’s how you can trigger them on your WhatsApp.

  • Bullet List: Place a “ ” in front of your text, followed by a space.
  • Numbered List: Begin your text with a number (1, 2, etc.), followed by a “ . ” and a space.
  • Blockquote: Start your text with “>” followed by a space.
  • Inline Code: Enclose your text with “ ` ” to display your code. To find this symbol, press and hold down the “ ” key until more symbol options appear.

In case you’ve forgotten about the previous formatting styles. Here’s a recap:

  • Italic: Insert an underscore ” _ ” before and after your text.
  • Bold: Put an asterisk ” * ” both in front of and behind your text.
  • Strikethrough: Place a tilde ” ~ ” before and after your text.
  • Monospace: Place three backticks ” “` ” at the start and the end of your text.

Have fun!
