When Apple announced the minor upgrades to its MacBook Air last year, everyone thought that it’s a sign of doom for the much-loved device. Even leading up to its October conference this year, hopes were not high to see improvements to the MacBook Air.

However, Apple had proven everyone wrong.

At the recently concluded Apple Conference, not only did the tech giant not kill off the MacBook Air, they gave it a new life instead.

The new 13.3 inch MacBook Air now comes with a Retina display, Touch ID, its latest generation keyboard and a Force Touch trackpad.

Apple also added in its T2 Security Chip to enhance the security of the device.

Looking like a hybrid between the MacBook and the MacBook Pro, the MacBook Air surprisingly offers a better battery life.

Apple says that it could last up to 12 hours of surf time, 13 hours of iTunes movie playback, and up to 30 hours of standby time.

Although it’s called the Air, one thing that does not do its name justice is its weight.

The new MacBook Air does weigh lighter than its predecessor, but it’s still heavier than the MacBook, weighing at 1.25kg.

Diving deeper into the specifications, the MacBook Air sports a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor with a Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz.

Storage-wise, you will have a choice to go with an out-of-the-box 128GB SSD (with Retina display) or a 256GB SSD. Like other Apple products, the internal storage for the Air can be configured up to 1.5TB.

Its onboard memory also has the option to upgrade from 8GB to 16GB.

Unfortunately, Apple will continue to keep the video quality of its FaceTime camera consistent across its devices with 720p resolution. Perhaps they know that we have been sticking stickers on it.

The new Apple MacBook Air will be available in colours, Gold, Silver and Space Grey. It’ll go on sale starting 7 November, and it’s priced at S$1,789 for the version with Retina display and S$2,079 for the one without but with a larger storage size of 256GB.
