Exposure to the sun may cause wrinkles, sagging and even increase the risk of skin cancer.

Skincare brand La Roche-Posay has come up with two new wearable technologies to track sun exposure, to help protect against the harmful effects of Ultraviolet (UV) rays.

One of them is the first-ever stretchable skin sensor to monitor UV exposure, My UV Patch.

My UV Patch is an adhesive containing photosensitive dyes that change colour to monitor levels of sun exposure.

It’s as thin as a strand of hair, water-resistant and suitable for sensitive skin.

You can just stick it on your body and apply your usual sunscreen over it.

Upon downloading an app, you can scan your patch and the app will let you know if you need more sun protection.

It can also give you presonalised recommendations and tips on sun-safe behaviour.

In Singapore, the limited edition My UV Patch will be made available first on Shopee.

Some time back, La Roche-Posay also announced its first battery-free wearable electronic sensor to measure a person’s UV exposure.

UV Sense is less than two millimeters thick, nine millimeters in diameter and designed to be worn on the thumbnail.

The sensor can be reapplied to the nail with additional adhesives, which come in the packaging.  

UV Sense is paired to a smartphone application using NFC technology to collect and display daily UV exposure, offer personalised sun safety coaching tips, and track trends in UV behavior over time. 

It can store up to three months of data.

La Roche-Posay will conduct a pilot study in the US later in 2018 and the device will only be launched globally in 2019.
