Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+: Going Big on Pics

Samsung S9

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd introduced its Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ smartphones in Singapore on Monday (26 February 2018).

Samsung says they boast the brand’s most advanced smartphone camera to date, and are tailored for today’s users who increasingly communicate with images, videos and emojis.

Super Slow-mo Videos

One of the highlights – the Super Slow-mo mode. Part of the video will be taken in 960 frames per second. After taking the video, users can select background music from 35 different options or add their own tunes. They can also create, edit and share GIF files. Here are some samples of videos taken in this mode.

It’s not the only smartphone in the market to boast this feature though. Sony’s Xperia XZ, launched in 2017, also boasts this function.

AR Emoji

In this mode, users can create an emoji that looks, sounds and acts like them. First, they  take a selfie. A data-based machine learning algorithm then analyses it, mapping out more than 100 facial features to create an image that reflects real-life expressions like winks and nods. Here’s an example of the end product.

Using the same selfie, a range of stickers are automatically generated. These can be shared across most third-party messaging platforms.

Low Light Camera

Similar to the way the iris of a human eye expands and contracts, Samsung’s Dual Aperture (F1.5 / F2.4) automatically lets in more light when it’s dark and less light when it’s too bright. This results in clearer photos, whether in bright or dark conditions.

Availability

Pre-orders start from 1 March 2018 (Thursday), 12pm.

These can be via telecommunications operators, Samsung Store Online/ Samsung Experience Stores, major consumer electronics & IT stores and Lazada Singapore.

The phones will be available from 16 March 2018 in midnight black, coral blue and lilac purple.

Here are the recommended retail prices.

Galaxy S9 (64GB): S$1,198

Galaxy S9+: (64GB) S$1,348, (256GB) S$1,498

To end off, here’s one of the AR stickers generated!
