Samsung has launched the Galaxy Xcover 4 recently, and at first, we had thought that it is a cover to protect their latest line of flagship smartphones. Turns out, it is actually a phone by itself. What differs it from the other models that Samsung manufactures is the durability. The Galaxy Xcover 4 is built to last.

Basic specifications

Underneath its 5-inch, 1280x720p HD display, the Xcover has a 1.4GHz Quad Core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of onboard storage (expandable to 256GB) and weighs over 170g, which is heavier than the Galaxy S8. The good thing is it runs on the Android 7.0 Nougat and not Marshmallow. Samsung also managed to squeeze in a f/1.9 CMOS 13MP, rear camera, with Pro mode and a f/2.2 CMOS 5MP front-facing camera. Not too shabby for a mid-range smartphone.

Environment-resistant

What the Xcover 4 truly stands out is that you do not have to treat it with extra kindness like the other precious high-end models that many people worship with tender loving care.

According to Samsung, the Xcover 4 is “durable enough to withstand harsh conditions and is water and dust-resistant.” It can also withstand cold, dusty environments, not to mention, places with high humidity too. All these are made possible thanks to its IP 68 rating and MIL-STD 810G certification.

Intuitive Display and Intuitive Active Key

In addition to almost weather-proofing the Xcover 4, Samsung also added some useful features, namely the Intuitive Display and Intuitive Active Key.

The Intuitive Display allows users to continue interacting with the smartphone without having to remove their gloves, which is essential for people working in the cold or people who work in factories that require them to have gloves on. This should eliminate the inconvenience of them having to remove their gloves just to answer a phone call.

On the other hand, the Intuitive Active Key provides its users with an option to set their preferred app. It can be activated by pressing the button at the top left corner of the device.

Battery life

Based on the technical specifications, the Xcover 4 is not a smartphone that demands a lot of battery power. Hence, the 2,800mAh battery should be able to last a full day or two. However, if you really ran out of juice and are nowhere near any power source, you can always pop open the back cover and put in a fully charged battery.

Security

The Xcover 4 not only has its exterior protected, but it also has its interior covered with the Samsung Knox, which protects its users against malware, intrusion and other malicious threats so you can surf safely without having to worry about your data being compromised.

The Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4 is going at RRP S$398, and it only comes in Black. As unfortunate as the colour option, you may not be able to buy it off the shelf in Singapore as it is only available for enterprise purchase only.
